I appreciate the kind remarks, Rick. You're right, of course, we musn't judge too harshly until the Angels have finished their deal-making. But I have a sinking feeling they are going to give Wood every opportunity to lock down the starting job in Spring Training, only to watch him blow it during the regular season.

Yes, the Winter Meetings start Monday and we should see a lot of player movement in the next week or so. My hope is that Brandon is used in a trade package for Halladay, serving the dual purpose of getting Wood the hell out of Anaheim and bringing in a top flight pitcher in return.

As far as the Angels' current power outage goes, they're trying to remedy that right now by negotiating with Jason Bay. Bay would be a tremendous addition to the Angels' lineup, and would allow Juan Rivera to occupy by the DH spot and occasionally rotate in and out of the corner outfield positions.

But Bay may very well re-sign with Boston, or even join Figgy and go back to his Washington roots. Who knows?

Like you said though, we should have a clearer picture by next week's end.

Good article and I agree with you regarding the departure of Figgins. It is a shame and I, for one, wished we could have kept him. This is especially true if the plan is having Woods as his replacement.

However, with Guerrero on his way out, if this is true, the Angels will need to replace that power, diminished as it is, with a big bat. So, until the Angels have committed to Woods officially, I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. The winter meetings start monday or tuesday, I believe, so things should be clearer soon.

Again, good article!
