McKnight Appears Ready for One More Year at ‘SC

joe-mcknight234So far, USC’s 6′0″ 190 pound running back is having his best season as a member of the Trojans with 938 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns – both team bests. But despite his success, it doesn’t appear as if the junior tailback is instantly going to head off to the National Football League once the season ends in late December. According to this morning’s edition of the Los Angeles Times, it appears as if McKnight is seriously considering remaining at USC for his senior season:

“I feel like right now is not the right time to drop everything and leave,” McKnight told Gary Klein of the LA Times. “I feel like I’m not ready for it.

“So I just need one more year to get everything straight and get in line.”

McKnight further added, “I want that Heisman Trophy, that’s one of the reasons I’m coming back.”

The return of the Louisiana would certainly make a big impact for the Trojans, as he not only serves as the team’s running back, but he is also an instrumental part of Trojans’ special teams unit as a punt returner. With the career-threatening injury to Stafon Johnson and the instability of some of the young tailbacks, McKnight has served as a rather reliable runner while teaming with fellow junior Allen Bradford in the backfield.

Another year spent at ‘SC would not only enable McKnight to grow as a player while elevating his NFL draft status, but it would also allow the Trojans to remain in contention for the Pac-10 and national championship yet again.
