You’re already eating his salary and getting almost nothing from him besides a potential blowup.

The cost of acquiring a true ace and winning a World Series is always worth a few million in wasted salary and 3-4 A-list prospects.

The Angels need to go after a big-time ace like Halladay if they can’t re-sign Lackey. So, trading Matthews in a deal to Toronto would make a whole lot of sense. The problem still is that if we trade GMJ, we’re going to have to eat a lot of his salary.

So, I wouldn’t mind just keeping him in his present role provided he doesn’t become too much of a cancer and a distraction to the rest of the team.
