Many Happy Returns: Blake, Kuroda Push Dodgers
The Dodgers had to get a win to keep up with the red-hot Rockies, but they had to get through Matt Cain to do it. Surprisingly, Cain did not put up much of a fight, allowing four runs in six innings of work, and he took the loss in the Dodgers’ 10-3 victory over the hated Giants. The Boys in Blue were staked with a 2-0 lead after the first inning when James Loney smoked a two-out, two-run double, and never looked back. In his second start since taking a liner to the head, Hiroki Kuroda shut down San Francisco’s offense. The starter allowed only three hits and two runs over eight innings of work, striking out five while not allowing a walk.
Casey Blake enjoyed his first game back after spending a week on the bench with a strained hamstring. The thirdbaseman hit a two-run homer in the sixth, breaking the game open with a 4-1 score. The Dodgers then went on a tear in the seventh, scoring five runs on five hits, one being a double, a walk and a sacrifice fly. Another run was added in the eighth, and LA cruised to an easy victory.
