Game 18: Angels 8, Mariners 0
The Los Angeles Angels finally looked liked themselves on Sunday (strange, since they had a weird lineup and a few starters sitting), scoring 8 runs against M’s pitching and beating the Mariners 8-0. Jered Weaver continued his breakout year, going 7 shutout innings while striking out 5 and earning his 2nd win of the season. Scot Shields and Brian Fuentes both worked scoreless innings of relief (the 8th and 9th, respectively), with the Halos’ new closer striking out the side.
Howie Kendrick provided a huge punch from the 5-hole in the lineup, going 3-5 a homer and 4 RBIs on the day. Gary Matthews Jr., Bobby Abreu, Torii Hunter and Juan Rivera all drove in a run each on Sunday, going a combined 12-22 (.545) in the middle of the lineup. Rivera also checked in with his first home run of the year.
Thoughts from the game…
- Welcome back, Howie Kendrick! In the last 4 games, Kendrick has gone 7-15 and raised his average from .196 to .258.
- Brandon Wood finally got a start, going 1-4 with a single. He should’ve had at least 2 hits, but kept getting robbed by Adrian Beltre (not to mention the umpires).
- The pitching (in general) finally looked good today… Jered Weaver was fantastic, and it was good to see the bullpen NOT give up any runs.
