Scioscia to Remain in Anaheim
While terms of the deal were not disclosed, General Manager Tony Reagins said that Scioscia, who is already the longest-tenured manager in the American League and in Angels history, “will be around for a long, long time.”
Scioscia, 50, the most successful manager in Angels history, has guided the team to an 803-655 record since taking over in 2000. He has also led the Angels to their only World Series championship back in 2002.
Under Scioscia’s watch, the Angels have won four of the last five AL West titles and reached the AL championship series in 2005. However, the Boston Red Sox have been the crutch for Scioscia and the Halos, as the Sox have eliminated Anaheim from the playoffs in 2004, 2007, and 2008. In those divisional series, the Angels have won a combined one game.
But despite the recent playoff loses, management is still more than pleased with the work Scioscia has put in as evident by the extension. While Scioscia played many years for Tommy Lasorda and the Los Angeles Dodgers, he seems to be content with managing in Anaheim
“[Anaheim is] definitely a place I want to be, and I know Arte and Tony felt the same way,” said Scioscia. “It was a mutual commitment we feel comfortable with. I want to keep going in the right direction, get back to the World Series and win it. I’m excited to have the opportunity to keep seeing this through until we reach our goal.”
“It’s been a blessing because I love it and it’s enjoyable. I can’t believe I’m going into my 10th year, to be honest. It seems like yesterday that I got the job. It’s still exciting, still fresh. We all love it. It’s great to be part of it.”
