Palmer Now Loves OSU
As I wrote earlier this week, I loved Carson Palmer’s frankness and honesty when asked about Ohio State and the Buckeye fans when he appeared on 570 KCAL last week. While you may disagree with his statement, at least he was being honest. Predictably, Palmer has now backtracked from his statement and issued a new one regarding Ohio State fans. It appears as if we have reached the point where quarterbacks must also behave like politicians and others, who must issue statements that they don’t actually believe.
In a statement, Palmer said, “I’m a Trojan all the way, and I was talking to a Trojan audience in California. I guess I got a little fired up, as all good fans will do. But I really do respect the Buckeyes, and I know their fans are passionate, too.
“I hope they all understand I’m just looking forward to a big game for my school against a very tough opponent, and that it’s all in the good fun of a rivalry. You don’t have a real rivalry unless both sides are great teams.”
In one regard, it’s sad to see Palmer backtrack his previous remarks, but it’s understandable considering the fact that most Bengal fans are also OSU fans as well. We all know what he still believes, though.
