Sparks Lose Two In A Row
The Los Angeles Sparks lost their second game in three days, as they went down to the Seattle Storm saturday, in front of sell out crowd of 10,833, at the Key Arena in Washington . The Sparks went on the 7 to 2 run to end first quarter to go up 17 to 11. The Storm, however out-rebounded the Sparks in the 2nd quarter going 19 to 11 to end the second quarter with a 2 point lead.
At the half, Sparks rookie Candace Parker had put up 8 of her 14 points, while Veteran Lisa Leslie had 4 points. Mediocre shooting haunted the Sparks and took the wind out of any momentum they had accumulated with a 5 to 2 run at the start of the second half.
The Sparks’ field goal shooting percentage hovered around 33% through the match while the Storm improved from 32% at the start of the second, to 39% by games end. Candace Parker had a total of 14 points, on 6-14 shoot, and 2-5 free throws, Parker was the only Spark in Double digit. The Storm had 4 players in double-digits with Swin Cash putting up 12 points, Sheryl Swoopes with 13 for the night, Sue Bird leading the Storm team with 18 points. Seattle also benefited from an hustling game from veteran Yolanda Griffith. Griffith had 5 offensive, and 7 defensive rebounds for a totally of 12 for the night.
2007 regular season MVP Lauren Jackson had 14 points and 5 rebounds for the night. It was Jackson’s last game, before going back to Australia, for pratice and preparation with the Australian women’s basketball Olympic team.
The Sparks next game will be against WNBA Western Conference leaders, San Antonio Silver Stars. The Silver Stars who are currently on a 7 game winning streak will be looking to looking to solidify their status as the best team in West.
