Hello, My Name is Cory
Recently, Blake Dewitt, who was plugging the third base gap during another Nomar Garciaparra injury, was demoted to triple A. As his replacement, the Dodgers have brought up Cory Nathaniel Wade. For those of you who no nothing about him, and I am sure that is quite a few of you, here is a little information.
Wade is a 24 year old right hander who is described as having quality control. The Dodgers drafted him in the 10th round of the June 2004 First-Year Player Draft. He split time in 2007 between the Inland Empires and turned enough heads to make it into the big league camp, playing for the double A Jacksonville Suns.
Here is a look at his 2007 stats:
Inland Empire: 7-0, 66 IP, 2.45 ERA, 6 HR, 17 BB, 67 SO
Jacksonville Suns: 0-1, 33 IP, 1.36 ERA, 2 HR, 11 BB, 33 SO
This year he has played all his games with Suns, his stats:
0-0, 14.2 IP, 4.30 ERA, 1 SV, 3 HR, 1 BB, 13 SO
“Quality control” seems to be a fair description. His K/BB ratio is pretty impressive in the lower levels. His stint with the Major League club will probably be a short one, but time will tell.
